Asgardur river Sog the hidden secret for Trout and Char … paradise in Iceland.

The river Sog is well known amongst anglers for both the salmon fishing and the char fishing. The Asgard beat at river Sog is one of the very best rivers in Iceland and offers both very good char/trout fishing and an excellent lodge one of the nicest one in Iceland , lodge have all comfort including sauna and Jacuzzi. The freshwater native char can grow up to sizes of 14 pounds. In addition to the native char, brown trout and sea-trout and searun Arctic Char are also caught. The prime time for trout is in early spring (April – June). The beat is fished exclusevly with only 4 rods , plenty of fishing as the beat is 5.6km long. Fishing is good we land over 800 trout alone for the spring from April to mid May. In the National Park just few minutes drive away from Asgardur beat on river Sog is the famous Lake Thingvallavatn. Here you will catch the biggest Brown Trout of the world , this amazing Brownies can be as large as 30 pounds and 10 to 20 pounds is common! It only takes about 45 minutes to drive to the river from Reykjavik, so it is ideal for short day-trips as well a longer tours. Guiding and all gear & tackle can easily be arranged upon request.

Season starts 1st April and is in prime until middle late June. Normally anglers come for 6 days week , but you are free to decide your self the numbers of days , minimum would be 3 days to experience the great fishing … or 4 – 5 – 6 days.

Tackle: 9,6″ single hand rod 5 to 7 weight, full floater, for Artic Char the best flies is dry flies and nymphs weighted and unweighted sizes 12-14-16 –18 , all natural colors, brown, green, black, yellow , olive , for the Seatrout and Brown Trout Streamers works very well in sizes 6 – 8 – 10 – 12 , again natural colours , specially Black and Olive , rubber legs works well.
