The Birse fishings lie half a mile south of Aboyne, with the beat extending to three and a half miles on the right bank downstream from the Altdinnie Pool, which is immediately above Aboyne Bridge.
All pools on the beat are easily fished from the bank or by wading. The water is fished by up to four rods who rotate between the various pools and each will have an even chance irrespective of water conditions. Fishing is available at any height of water.
One fishing hut services the beat and in addition there are two shelters. The hut has a wood burning stove, w.c. and telephone and is readily accessible by car,as are most of the pools.
Birse provides very attractive summer fishing, not only for salmon and grilse but also sea trout. The water is often fished well into the night during summer weeks.
