Tungufljot is a very beautiful river in Iceland where you can get good catches in beautiful surroundings with the waterfall Faxi as the crown. You just need the right flies, great food and good company to nourish your soul.
Picture is of Little Vala fighting a Salmon on the upper flats above waterfall Faxi , amazing pools and best of fly water from mid to late season.Tungufljot river is located 100 km South East of Reykjavík, only an hour away from the capital of Iceland Reykjavík. This makes transfer from the airport convenient and anglers can go direct from the International Airport to the river and back. There is no hotel cost in Reykjavík involved either domestic airfares.
Little Vala and dad Arni with some nice grilse from the upper flats in September , this afternoon we landed 17 Salmon!
The river is in size slightly bigger than East and West Rangá and is rated as a large river on Icelandic standard. It is gin clear water and offers endless pools for fly fishing. The Tungufljot rivers system is one of the biggest in Iceland, it is the main river which is about 30 km long with three attractive tributaries which joins the main river on the upper part plus several other lesser important tributaries and sight streams.
My favorite tackle for Tungufljot is a 13 foot double handed rod weight 9 with full floating line. My favorite flies is the Sunray Shadow on plastic tube in various sizes from 3 to 7 cm long wing , Monroe Killer , Silver Sheep , Silver Wilkenson , Black and Blue , Under Taker , Black Brahan all in sizes from 6 to 10.
Many of the Tungufljot Salmon is big fish indeed , in season 2021 we landed 3 over 100cm and numbers of Salmon from 90 to 99 cm was landed.
A beautiful Salmon landed from the upper flats above Faxi falls.
On Tungufljot and its tributaries you do not need to worry about water levels , there is never low water , and never unfishable dirty water , river is very stable wich is of great benefit.
Little Vala releasing 2 Grilse that she caught on the upper flats above Faxi falls.
There are some amazing fly water on the Upper Flats pools above Faxi falls , pool after pool and some of them hardly fished so big is the beat.
We fish on Tungufljot 2 rods on the West Bank , 2 rods on the East Bank , 2 rods on Junction and 2 rods on the Upper Flats above Faxi.

The new building connects the existing services in the area and is designed with the aim to reflect nature through the choice of materials blending into the nearest surroundings. Hotel Geysir has 77 rooms and 6 suites.
Hotel Geysir is the newest addition to our family-run hotel on the doorstep of the geothermal area of Geysir and Strokkur in the historic Haukadalur Valley. One of the greatest natural attractions of Iceland is the great Geysir, which the hotel is named after, and it is an indescribable spectacle. Nearby is another famous geyser, Strokkur – watch as it spurts water 30 metres into the air every few minutes. As well as geysers, there are hot springs including the stunning turquoise-coloured Belsi in the area.
The hotel was designed to harmoniously blend the building with the surrounding environment through the use of materials that reflect the surroundings and the architectural design of the building. The hotel’s rooms and suites are bright and light and all have views of the stunning scenery. Opt for a room with a large window where you can sit in and watch the world go by or choose one with large opening windows and a balcony.
There are large windows throughout the hotel so you can admire the landscape including the magnificent Geysir and hot spring area while passing through. The dining rooms are on the first and second floor and can open up into the hotel’s garden. For a special occasion, we recommend private dining as you will have access to the rooftop terrace which has an incredible 360-degree panorama of the surroundings and a herb garden.
The area is famous for the geothermal hot springs and geysers which the hotel is in perfect close proximity to and can be seen in awe during the day and night. If you are lucky enough, at night you will witness the bubbling hot springs contrasting with the Northern Lights (September to March). There’s more than just the geothermal activities in the area – discover the surroundings with a tour on ATVs, horseback or on foot.
