Fishing in Greenland is simply out of this world!

Greenland is the wildest place on earth for Arctic Char fishing. There are thousands of rivers and lakes – full of Arctic Char.

Because of the enormous territory and relatively few inhabitants, many of these fishing areas are hardly fished at all. Some rivers have not see an angler – ever.

The fishing is on a voluntary catch and release basis, mostly light tackle fishing.   The size of the fish varies from 1 – 7 lbs + and there is plenty of it.

The local guides are excellent and know the area extremely well. The river mouths are often very productive when the char runs up the rivers.

The lakes that are connected to the ocean, by clear rivers, provide the best fishing. The fjords are also extremely productive in the early part of the season.

Char starts to gather in the fjords near the river mouths in the end of June and begin to move into the rivers in the beginning of July.

The abundance of Arctic char – and the magnificent nature – truly makes this a fishing paradise!

We fly 3 hours from Reykjavik, Iceland to Narsarsuaq, Greenland. A perfect opportunity to experience Iceland before or after visiting Greenland. Make a combo tour of these two Northern destinations!

Best time for Arctic char fishing in Greenland is from beginning of July until end of September.   There is an option of 3/4/or 7 night’s stay (or even longer), based on the below flight schedule for the Narsarsuaq flight from Reykjavik.

During the summer

South Greenland lives up to its name of “green land”. Because of the mild climate, the economic structure is very different from the rest of Greenland with sheep farming and agriculture playing a major part.

You can see isolated sheep farms, most of which can only be reached by boat. But South Greenland is not just known for its fertility, mountains and flowers.

South Greenland is also for its glaciers, icebergs in all shapes and colors. There is also fantastic views of the Northern Lights from the end of August.

Field ice

Field ice is a remarkable phenomenon of South Greenland. It is formed in the Arctic Ocean north of Greenland and carried down and around the southern cape and into South Greenland’s bays and fjords.

The ice brings seals, and seal hunting and fishing, are other occupations in the area. Narsarsuaq is the center of various excursions and Narsaq is the pearl of the area.

They are the two of the three sizable towns in South Greenland and are separated by a short boat ride. South Greenland is the most accessible and most traveled to point in Greenland.

The camp

In the summer of 2012, Lax-á erected the first proper hunting- and fishing camp on the Southwest Coast of Greenland. The camp was the first ever permanent  hunting-and fishing camp in Greenland.

A total of twelve sleeping cabins (twin bed) built around a dining lodge with plenty of room for bigger groups.

The dining lodge is equipped with a kitchen, a gas BBQ and a charcoal BBQ.

Meals are prepared by the camp chef – most of the menu originates in area (caribou meat, arctic char and fish from the sea).

The camp has running water, WC, showers, sauna, BBQ and a fully equipped kitchen.  All this and still a wilderness camp – equates to a really a unique experience!

Location The Lax-á camp is located on the coast of Southwest Greenland which is the most accessible and most traveled to point in Greenland. Whether our guests seek solitude, new friendship or want to share a memorable trip with friends or family, Lax-á´s Greenland Camp is the destination.  The camp is first and foremost built for hunting and fishing as Lax-á has, in cooperation with the Greenland caribou company, the exclusive hunting rights of 500 square kilometers in this area. The Lax-á camp is also the perfect destination for nature walks, exploring the wildlife and the wilderness, experiencing the endless fjords, glaciers and all the magnificent beauty of Greenland.
