After months of preparation and expectation it was finally the time to realize one of my dreams as a salmon fly fisherman, visit one of the legendary Icelandic rivers. The West Ranga was the chosen destination, to which we went a group of passionate Spanish fishermen.
The days spent there early August have been unforgettable. Although the salmon run at Ranga this year is lower than in past seasons, pools are packed with salmons and with the right mood and working the river properly, the chance of having excellent fishing days was there and we got them !.
Salmon fishing in difficult situations makes you worth the catches. The weather was unusually good, with sunny days without rain and wind, which made our day even more enjoyable, but the fish lie close to the bottom and reaching them with the fly was a hard work. The camaraderie and a good atmosphere prevailing among the members of the group was excellent from the start. All this has made the Icelandic dream came true.
Thank you very much for Lax-a, company of great prestige in organizing fishing trips throughout the world, thanks to the Lodge staff always treated us with professionalism and a permanent smile on their faces, and thanks to Brandhur our guide, a great professional, his keen knowledge of the river and salmon behaviour has been very helpful to us, thanks to all colleagues who shared this wonderful experience, and thank you very much to Tono, Lax-á Spain Sales manager, an excellent fisherman and friend, with whom I was privileged to share these days on the river banks. And last many thanks to Arni, Vala and Valgerdour for his great kindness, hospitality, and his exuberant sense of humor.
It is now, when days goes on, when an experience like this is more valued, and when I close my eyes the fishing scenes are still live on my mind. I will for sure be back back to try it again.
Tight lines !
