River Blanda in north Iceland opened at 7:00 today(05.06.18). Conditions were not ideal as the river was high in water and a little colored due to snow melt in the mountains.
Still the four rods managed to catch 10 salmon on the first shift and many were lost. The largest salmon was 18 pounds and all the salmon caught were MWS from 10 pounds and up.
Yesterday river Norðurá opened with 15 salmon caught on the first day. Anglers in both rivers say that the salmon is coming very healthy form the ocean fat and well kept.
Perhaps this is a good omen for the forthcoming season in Iceland. We are optimistic as always.
