Now the season has been open for a while in Iceland and we are still fishing mostly only the big guys as the grilse runs are yet to come.
We have had a few massive fish in river Blanda, two 98 cm salmon and one in the very rare category of 99.5 cm.
The Ranga gave a 103 cm fish and just today the largest one to date was caught in the undisputed queen of the big ones in Iceland – Laxa in Aðaldal.
The lucky anglers name is Atli Brynjarsson and he was guided by a 15 year old rookie by the name of Hilmar Þór Árnason.
The salmon pictured with this article was measured at 108 cm and weighted 27 pounds.
