Icelandic Reindeer

The Icelandic reindeer has been recognized by Safari Club International as a distinct species from the European reindeer. So, there is now a new name for the avid reindeer trophy collectors to add to their lists.

Reindeer hunting takes place in the highlands in the east of Iceland, in an area to the west of Egilsstadir which reaches to the foot of the Vatnajökull glacier.

Hunting takes place under the guidance of experienced local guides. They know the area intimately and have managed the reindeer herds for years.

The Reindeer season is from the middle of July to the middle of September. Reindeer will be out of velvet by the second week of August.

Minimum caliber is 243 and the best is 270 or similar. If you want to travel light we can arrange for a rifle rental and ammunition. If you prefer to travel with your own rifle we will arrange for all the necessary documents to import your rifle into Iceland.
